Two weeks ago, my mother-in-law, daughters and I went to see the movie "Julie & Julia." It was cute. A nice summer chick-flick. But, of course, it got me thinking (pretty much everything gets me thinking!). In the movie, Julie decides that she needs a project, so she decides to cook her way through Julia Child's book, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and blog about it. I have no interest in cooking. I don't even really like food all that much. But some of the reasons she had for doing what she did resonated with me. Her life was rather dull and mundane. She had a habit of not following through on commitments. Hmmm.....sounds familiar.
For the last two weeks I have pondered, "What project could I take on? What's something that I could do and blog about?" Frankly, I couldn't come up with anything. So, one day I opened my practically empty cookbook cabinet. Inside are three cookbooks: "Gone With the Fat," "Bread," and a little homemade cookbook called "Recipes from Rebecca and Friends" that Rebecca and I made to sell and raise money for her trip to Panama. "Maybe I'll just cook my way through this," I thought and began to thumb through it. Most of the recipes are doable (as opposed to impossible!) and they were all submitted by friends, family and interesting people in our lives.
So.......
I'm doing it! Starting tomorrow, I will begin working my way through the 81 recipes that appear in the book. For each entry I will include the recipe, a little something about the person who submitted it and, of course, how it all turned out. Someday, when I figure out how, I will add pictures. My goal is to work my way through all the recipes before the holidays, maybe saving some of the desserts/cookies for Christmas.
I think, since I just had a full year to do absolutely nothing - no job, no kids at home - and this week I went back to work, this is a great time to start this, don't you??
Wish me luck! (I'm scared.....)
Tomorrow: Shannon's almond chicken and Joanne's applesauce casserole.
