With so many traditional 'must haves' for Christmas, I wondered how I could possibly squeeze in a new recipe from "Rebecca and Friends." My lovely daughter, Tara, and the adorable brother/sister duo of Gianna & Dominic Fiola, made it easy. Utz made a special bag of Christmas pretzels (instead of the normal 'pretzel shape,' they were shaped like trees, bells and stars) and we used red and green M&Ms to make this a really cute and festive (and very quickly disappearing!) addition to the Christmas cookie tray.
Limited refrigerator space led us to cool them outside in the snow, which actually worked better than when we made more later and had to put them in the fridge because it was raining.
Keep these ingredients handy for a fun, quick snack to make with your kids! :-)
Gianna & Dominic Fiola's Chocolate M&M Pretzels
Mini pretzels
Dark chocolate candy melts (oops! We bought milk chocolate - still super yummy!)
M&Ms
Line cookie sheets with waxed paper
Place candy melts, spread about 1 inch apart, on top of waxed paper lined cookie sheets
Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 2 minutes or until the chocolate is melted but not runny (you have to watch it so the chocolate doesn't burn & scorch)
Remove from oven and press a mini pretzel on top of each chocolate melt (totally skipped this step! Oops! Well, our 'open face' version was still quite popular!)
Gianna & Dominic (any kid will do, even if she's 26) then place 2 M&Ms on each pretzel
Put the cookie sheets in the refrigerator for a few minutes so the chocolate can harden up quickly
Enjoy!
Oh, we did Fiolas, we did! :-)

How in the world did we do that recipe so wrong?!? There's like 2 steps. And I'm pretty sure we messed up both of them.
Anyway, I made them all wrong again at home and brought them to Grandma Kerr's for a family dinner and they were greeted with much enthusiasm there as well.
Hi Tara! I miss you! Apparently we are like these GENIUS cooks who somehow instinctively know better than the recipe. Amazing, isn't it? :-)
Chocolate & pretzels just belong together.
And even though these new treats were wonderful, don't think I've forgotten about the promise of raspberry foldovers.

They were awesome, but I will take more rasberry fold overs too. Its all good.

Dear boys:
Suck it up and enjoy what you got, you ungrateful punks.
With love,
Tara
